[Photos/Images] "Too Shocked for Words," "Thank You for This Amazing Series" — Fans React to The Summer Hikaru Died Finale Announcement 1st

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for The Summer Hikaru Died has announced that the story will conclude in two more chapters, sharing an illustration of Yoshiki and Hikaru to mark the news. With the climax now near, fans have flooded the post with heartfelt comments expressing their sadness at the approaching end.

The illustration shows Yoshiki and Hikaru sitting outside Yamakyu, the local candy store, alongside the text "[Two chapters left until the ending]" and the publication schedule for the two remaining chapters. Bathed in nostalgic summer sunlight, the pair sit quietly on the shop's bench, with only the sound of cicadas filling the air in a lyrical, wistful scene. The final chapter is scheduled to be posted on Tuesday, October 20.

The Summer Hikaru Died is based on the coming-of-age horror manga by Mokumokuren, serialized on the manga site Young Ace UP. It follows Yoshiki, an ordinary high school boy, as he experiences a series of strange, unsettling incidents around him while living alongside a mysterious "Something" that mimics his childhood friend, Hikaru. The original manga has sold more than five million copies in total, was adapted into a TV anime in July 2025, and received its first stage adaptation in January 2026.

The post drew a flood of comments from fans expressing both sadness at the story's approaching end and deep affection for the series: "No way... only two chapters left... I'm too shocked for words...," "I'm already fighting off this feeling of loss... but I'll watch it through to the end," "I'll see it through, but I don't want it to end... I want to keep watching forever...," "I hope everyone gets a happy ending! I won't look away for a single second until the very last moment!!!" and "I'm crying... it's sad, but thank you so much for such an amazing work!!"
