"I Knew I Would Regret It If I Couldn't Do It": Non Looks Back on In This Corner of the World, 10 Years On

When the topic moved on to MAPPA's works over the years, Non picked out Yuri!!! on ICE, Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku as anime she especially likes. On what makes MAPPA's works appealing, she said: "I really love the way you can immerse yourself in their worlds as you watch. And I feel that every MAPPA work has a real sense of style."

She also looked back on a past conversation with Manabu Otsuka, who as president and representative director of MAPPA has produced a wide range of works. "When I said on the radio that all of their works are stylish and amazing, he told me that whatever the genre, they place importance on making it cool.

"We got talking about how there are many kinds of cool, such as cute and cool or crisp and cool, and it really brought home to me that having that kind of aesthetic changes the way you make things. When I watch their works with that in mind, I can feel the coolness MAPPA has established, and I think it is truly remarkable," she concluded.

Asked for her impressions of the exhibition, which gathers MAPPA's works from across the years in one place, she made her pitch: "There are any number of sculptures and displays you can only see here, and photography is basically allowed, so there were plenty of spots that look great in pictures."

She also mentioned the corporate-line T-shirt and zip-up hoodie she picked out from the merchandise on sale, introducing them with: "The colors are stylish. The design is understated, so I thought they would be easy to wear day to day."

She closed with a message: "With MAPPA marking its 15th anniversary, the exhibition is put together so that you feel wrapped in the worlds of its works. Please do come and see it for yourself." The opening event then came to an end.
