Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- Box Office Tops 1.8 Billion Yen, Attendance Also Surpasses 1 Million

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- (distributed by ANIMEC), the latest installment in the series that has been in theaters since August 28, has topped 1.8 billion yen in box office revenue and drawn over 1 million moviegoers. Since September 12, spoilers have been permitted, and fans have been flooding social media with their impressions and theories.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- is an anime film that serves as the true sequel to Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, released in 2013. It is an entirely new production helmed by chief director Akiyuki Shinbo, with a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi, original character designs by Ume Aoki, and animation production by SHAFT.

Over its first 17 days, from August 28 to September 13, the film recorded cumulative attendance of 1,093,178 and box office revenue of 1,838,113,160 yen.

The film topped the weekend rankings in both attendance and box office revenue on its opening weekend, and has continued to be a massive hit, surpassing 1 billion yen in box office revenue within four days of release and 900,000 in attendance along with 1.5 billion yen in revenue within 10 days of release. As the long-awaited latest entry in the series, arriving roughly 13 years after 2013's Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, it has rolled out a wide range of events, starting with the earliest possible opening-day screenings and followed by stage greetings, nationwide live viewings, and mascot costume greetings. More than two weeks after its release, the excitement continues to spread.

In addition, spoilers were permitted on social media, and information about a new character, "the nameless upperclassman／Wasu," was released all at once. On the same day, distribution began of third-week attendance bonuses featuring the new character, and the "Now Showing PV" unveiled at the "Aniplex One Focus (AOF)" streaming event surpassed 1 million views on YouTube in less than 24 hours after its release.

In addition, Dolby Cinema screenings will begin on September 18. Dolby Cinema's distinctive visuals and sound will offer the film's world as an even deeper, more vivid experience.
