On the official X account of the original character goods online store Charalog, new illustrations were released alongside an announcement of original goods featuring Japanese, Western and Chinese themed costumes from the anime Magic Knight Rayearth, and they have become a big topic among fans. The dazzling special costume designs, tailored to each character's image, drew a wide range of reactions.

The anime Magic Knight Rayearth is a fantasy work based on the manga of the same name by the creative group CLAMP. It follows three junior high school girls who, though bewildered, set out on a harsh journey of battles and adventure with magic and swords, to become the legendary "Magic Knights" who will save another world. The TV anime aired from 1994 to 1995, and a new anime produced by E&H production began airing in October 2026.

The image, released with the description "costumes themed around Japanese, Western and Chinese styles," shows the three characters, Hikaru Shidou (voiced by Ayane Sakura), Umi Ryuuzaki (voiced by Rumi Okubo) and Fuu Hououji (voiced by Rie Takahashi), each wearing her themed costume. Umi, with her long blue hair, wears a gorgeous Chinese-style cheongsam, Hikaru in the center shows off a stylish Japanese-inspired dress with red as its base color, and Fuu on the right appears in a Western-style outfit of a long green jacket paired with shorts. Each of them carries a long sword or a greatsword, making for a splendid illustration that blends the characters' personalities with the theme.

In response to the post, fans left many comments of delight and praise, such as "It would be great to have costume changes like this in the anime!" "Fuu in shorts is rare!? They suit her," "Umi in a Chinese dress is a perfect match for my interpretation!!!!!" "Umi's in Chinese style?! Oh my, what do I do, she's so cute," "Isn't this illustration just too good!?
