On October 21 (Wed.), Toshima Ward installed two manhole covers featuring designs from the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen, which has drawn a huge response both in Japan and around the world, near Exit C7 of Ikebukuro Station and near Exit 6 of Kanamecho Station.

The ward runs city promotion centered on manga, anime and other works with ties to the area, working to attract visitors from Japan and abroad and to build a lively community. Ikebukuro, including Ikebukuro West Gate Park, appears as one of the story's settings in Season 3 of the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen, "The Culling Game Part 1," which led to the decision to install the manhole covers.

The covers will remain in place for two years from October 21 (Wed.). The cover depicting Yuji Itadori and Hiromi Higuruma has been installed near Exit C7 of Ikebukuro Station (3-28 Nishi-Ikebukuro), and the cover depicting Megumi Fushiguro and Fumihiko Takaba has been installed near Exit 6 of Kanamecho Station (5-24 Nishi-Ikebukuro).

Regarding the installation, a ward representative commented: "We expect the manhole covers featuring the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen, which is attracting worldwide attention, to become a new landmark in Ikebukuro. We hope these covers will give everyone a reason to visit Ikebukuro and a chance to take an interest in the series. When you visit, please take a stroll around the area and experience the many charms Toshima Ward has to offer, including its history, culture and lush green parks."

The TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen is based on the hit manga by Gege Akutami, which depicts the battle between curses born from human negative emotions and the jujutsu sorcerers who exorcise them with jujutsu. Serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018, the manga concluded in September 2024 after a run of six and a half years. Worldwide cumulative circulation of the series has surpassed an astonishing 150 million copies (including digital editions). From September 2025, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, a near-future spin-off of Jujutsu Kaisen with original story by Gege Akutami and art by Yuji Iwasaki, ran as a short-term intensive serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump.

The TV anime started on the MBS/TBS network in 2020, and Season 2, "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death / Shibuya Incident," aired in 2023, drawing a huge response both in Japan and around the world. In 2025, a theatrical rollout traced the world of Jujutsu Kaisen in chronological order. It began with JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie in May, followed in October by the re-release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which grossed 26.5 billion yen worldwide. In November came Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution -Shibuya Incident x The Culling Game Begins, which re-edited the Shibuya Incident arc and connected it to the directly following episodes, Episodes 1 and 2 of TV anime Season 3, "The Culling Game Part 1," and generated great excitement. From January, the series began airing on the MBS/TBS network, and the Culling Game, a deadly contest among those who wield jujutsu with Kenjaku pulling the strings, finally begins. Production of TV anime Season 4, "The Culling Game Part 2," has also been announced.
