Leiji Matsumoto's First Large-scale Exhibition 'Leiji Matsumoto Exhibition: The Journey of Creation' Announced: Over 300 Original Illustrations from 'Galaxy Express 999' to be Displayed

Additionally, a special video titled "Thoughts on Reiji Matsumoto" featuring a conversation between Leiji Matsumoto's close friend, Tetsuya Chiba, and Naoko Yamazaki, an astronaut influenced by "Galaxy Express 999" and "Space Battleship Yamato," was released today, February 13, on Toei Animation's official YouTube channel. This hidden gem video revisits the charm of Leiji Matsumoto through episodes from his youth, Chiba's thoughts on manga, Yamazaki's passion for space, and the influences Matsumoto left behind.

It has been two years since our father, Leiji Matsumoto, embarked on his journey to the sea of stars. Through the efforts of all involved parties, we have been able to hold this original drawing exhibition. Although Matsumoto departed without even a single pen that he held so dear, each of the countless original drawings he left behind breathes with the essence of Matsumoto from those times.
I grew up watching my father intensely and fervently move his pen at his desk. As a child, I sometimes felt lonely due to his constant work, but now, through the original drawings left behind, I feel the miracle of meeting my father from those days, the father of his boyhood, and I am delighted and happy.
Matsumoto often said, "We can meet again at the place where the circle of time touches." This may exist not only in the future but also in the past. We hope that each and every one of the visitors to this exhibition will encounter Matsumoto at their own "place where the circle of time touches."
