"Haikyu!!" First Original Novelization Released! Includes Color Pinup

The novelization of the popular volleyball manga "Haikyu!!" (written by Haruichi Furudate), which has been popular since its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump and is still widely loved in anime, movies and stage productions, "Haikyu!! Manga Novelization: The Karasuno High School Volleyball Club Begins!" (written by Misato Igarashi) was released on February 21st from Shueisha Mirai Bunko.

This work is the first original novelization of "Haikyu!!". It was realized with the desire to deliver a passionate reading experience to elementary and middle school readers through the figures of the characters who are dedicated to sports. In addition, it has been decided to make it a series in the future.

In this first installment of the series, the content of the first to third volumes of the original manga is mainly included. The main character, Shoyo Hinata, who started playing volleyball after being inspired by the "Little Giant" he saw in his elementary school days, unexpectedly reunites with his nemesis, Tobio Kageyama, at Karasuno High School after losing his last game in middle school. Their passionate youth, growing into a great combination despite their clashes, is depicted.

The novel captures the growth of young boys who love volleyball, the excitement of matches, and the bonds with their teammates through detailed psychological descriptions unique to the medium of novels. Additionally, a glossary of volleyball terms is included at the end of the book. By reading it alongside the match scenes in the main story, readers can feel the passionate emotions of the players while also becoming familiar with the sport of volleyball itself. The illustrations included in the novel total 51, which is about four times the number typically found in works by Shueisha Mirai Bunko. With furigana provided throughout, it serves as an enjoyable introduction to novels for elementary and middle school readers.
