These chests are often mimics in disguise, and as a result, she frequently ends up getting trapped and nearly devoured by them.

In episode 23, while navigating a dungeon, Frieren discovers a treasure chest. Despite Fern (voiced by Kana Ichinose) using magic to identify the chest as a mimic and issuing a warning, Frieren confidently counters, "The accuracy of that spell is 99%."
