The anime "The Apothecary Diaries" is based on a light novel by Natsu Hyuga. It has been adapted into a manga and has surpassed 40 million copies in the series. The story is a mystery-solving entertainment set in the imperial court, revolving around Maomao, the apothecary's daughter with an abnormal obsession with poisons and medicines, and Jinshi, the mysterious and handsome eunuch.

Synopsis
Attacked by an assassin with flying darts, Maomao and Jinshi escape into a waterfall cave. While attempting to escape from the cave, Maomao discovers a secret Jinshi had been hiding. Just as Jinshi is about to reveal his secret with determination... Meanwhile, at the banquet hall from which Jinshi and the others have disappeared, a messenger arrives at Basen with news that "the master's clothes were found on the rocks, suggesting he might have been swept away," causing a stir. However, this was part of Maomao and the others' plan to flush out the perpetrator with the flying darts.
