Jinshi Detects the Same Alcohol Scent as Maomao... Episode 42 of the Anime "The Apothecary Diaries" Synopsis & Preview Images Released! Toshiyuki Toyonaga Cast as Lahan, Lakan’s Adopted Nephew

The synopsis, preview images, and web preview for Episode 42 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" have been released. Furthermore, Toshiyuki Toyonaga has been confirmed to play the role of Lahan, Lakan’s adopted nephew, who makes a new appearance in Episode 42.

"The Apothecary Diaries" is an anime adaptation based on the novel of the same name by Natsu Hyuuga. Set within the imperial court, the story follows the young apothecary Maomao, who becomes a "poison tester." She uses her knowledge of poisons and medicines to solve numerous difficult cases arising in the court. The second season of the anime has been airing in two consecutive cours since January 2025.

In Episode 42, the character of Lahan, whose casting had been a topic among fans, finally makes his debut in the main series. Additionally, Toyonaga will appear in a special ABEMA broadcast airing on May 16 (Friday).

The special broadcast will feature Takeshi Ōtsuka as Jinshi, Katsuyuki Konishi as Gaoshun, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Basen, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Lahan. The program, titled "ABEMA Special Imperial Court Stay-Behind Boys' Gathering SP," will mark the first ever boys’ gathering special for the series.
