Comment from Shinya Ishihara (Saucy Dog)

I’ve loved "Crayon Shin-chan" since childhood and have watched all the movies, so I was genuinely happy to receive the offer to do the theme song. Although I was nervous and anxious, I wanted to write a song that would be fun and positive, one that could lead into the future for us as a band. When looking at the storyboards and script, I once again remembered what used to excite me and give me hope as a child.

Ordinary days were incredibly fun and full of mysteries, and remembering the excitement of uncovering those mysteries, I wrote "Spice" with the feeling that, no matter how hard things get, I want to keep living without losing that sense of wonder.

When I spoke with Saucy Dog, I described that the story is set in India, but we were not making an “Indian film”—rather, we're making a "Crayon Shin-chan" film set in India, and talked briefly about what kind of story we wanted to tell.

During our discussion, it became clear that Saucy Dog is very familiar with "Crayon Shin-chan," so I left the creative process entirely up to their sensibilities, based on the script and materials. I also mentioned that it didn't need to have an "Indian" flavor to the music, and that my only request was that, as always, I wanted the story to end with a sense that it "continues," rather than ending with the children's story at the film’s conclusion.

Upon hearing the finished song, I felt it had lyrics and a gentle melody that closely align with the film’s themes, making it a truly wonderful song that gives the movie a deep and warm afterglow. I expanded my imagery by listening to this song repeatedly while creating the visuals for the film’s ending.

I hope that everyone can soak in this song, together with the lingering impression from the story of "Crayon Shin-chan," when experiencing the film in theaters.
