Episode 45: "The Toad Tray"
[Synopsis]
Under Shenmei's orders, Maomao spends her days making elixirs for immortality. One day, Kyou-u devises a plan to help Maomao escape, but is quickly caught by the guards. Hearing the commotion, Suirei steps in to mediate, and they are momentarily relieved. However, the atmosphere changes completely when Shenmei appears. Displeased by Shenmei's amusement in deciding which of Maomao, Kyou-u, Suirei, or the guards to torment, Maomao unwittingly blurts out some words. Enraged, Shenmei orders Maomao to be taken to the torture chamber.
