"The Apothecary Diaries" anime is based on the light novel series by Natsu Hyuuga. The series has also been adapted into manga and has surpassed 40 million copies in circulation. The story is a mystery-solving entertainment following Maomao, the apothecary’s daughter with an unusual obsession with poisons and medicine, and Jinshi, the beautiful and enigmatic eunuch, as they tackle various difficult incidents within the imperial court.

[Synopsis]
The warehouse that Maomao and Kyou-u sneaked into was actually the workshop of Feifa, who had attacked Jinshi during the hunt. There, the two are discovered by the cold-hearted woman Shenmei, who appears with one of the special envoys, Ayla. Although they barely escape physical punishment, Maomao is nevertheless taken prisoner and confined within a “fortress” surrounded by snow and impenetrable stone walls. Faced with massive quantities of Feifa and those sturdy fortifications, Maomao realizes that she is now caught up in a major incident that could shake the entire country.
