In the fourth episode of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," the reason behind Maomao's slap to the maid, saying "It's just disciplining a fool," stems from her deep respect for human life as an "apothecary."

Maomao noticed that the ailing Lady Lihua (voiced by Yui Ishikawa) had white powder applied to her skin. This white powder was supposed to be banned due to its toxic content.

The maid, who failed to grasp the seriousness of the situation, explained her reason for using the powder by saying, "Lady Lihua must remain beautiful. That's the duty of a maid." No sooner had she spoken than Maomao mercilessly slapped her.
