Gulp... Slurp... When Jinshi Discovers a Bedroom Secrets Book in "The Apothecary Diaries," Was He Really Interested in Printing Technology?

An unexpected side—or perhaps just a different side—of Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka), who is both of noble birth and an exceptionally handsome man, was humorously revealed. In episode 25 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," Jinshi's reaction to books about nighttime relations drew laughter from viewers, with many joking, "So Jinshi-sama likes that sort of thing too!"

Maomao (CV: Aoi Yūki) had ordered a large number of books about romantic nighttime secrets, and Jinshi’s group discovered this. Maomao explained she had procured them for the purpose of “educating” the palace’s ladies-in-waiting, but as the person in charge of the inner palace, Jinshi felt compelled to check them. As he read through the books, he became more absorbed, prompting Gaoshun (CV: Katsuyuki Konishi), a military officer, to whisper, “If one catches your fancy, why not keep a copy?” into his ear.

Flustered, Jinshi exclaimed, “No! That’s definitely not the reason!” and awkwardly cleared his throat. Later, when Jinshi asked, “Could you tell me where these are sold?” it created a strangely uncomfortable atmosphere. Desperately trying to explain himself, Jinshi insisted, “That’s not it! I only want to know about the printing technique!” only for Maomao to let out a sly chuckle. Viewers found this unexpected side (or was it?) of Jinshi hilarious, with comments like, “So Jinshi-sama likes that sort of thing too~” and “Jinshi-sama panicking made me laugh!”
