Aura (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu), who appears in the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, is known as “Aura the Guillotine” and is one of the Demon King’s elite demonic lieutenants. However, even such a formidable figure as Aura was apparently fearful of the hero Himmel (voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto). In one particular cut featured in episode 10, much speculation arises as to why Aura had disappeared for some time.

Aura is one of the powerful demons known as the “Seven Sages of Destruction,” who serve as the Demon King’s close aides. She is an existence that has lived for over 500 years. Aura wields a powerful spell called the “Scales of Obedience,” which places her own soul and that of her opponent on invisible scales—the one with the stronger magical power can control the other. About 80 years ago, after being defeated by the hero’s party, Aura vanished for a long period, but it is said that she regained her powers around 28 years ago.

Why did Aura disappear from the public stage for nearly half a century? This question can be inferred from a brief scene in episode 10. In the confrontation between the revived Aura and Frieren, a flashback scene depicting a past battle is inserted. In this moment, there is a fleeting cut in which Aura is shown being slashed on the shoulder by Himmel, bleeding.
