The Usual Icy Attitude Completely Transformed!? In "The Apothecary Diaries," Jinshi Is So Confused by Maomao’s “Dangerously Cute” Smile That He Bangs His Head Against a Pillar

When someone who is usually cold and dismissive suddenly flashes an extraordinary smile your way, even Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka), who is accustomed to being adored by women, finds himself completely knocked out. In episode 15 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," the expression Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yūki) showed was so powerful that it not only threw Jinshi into confusion but also pierced the hearts of viewers.

Maomao, who is always cool and never particularly high-spirited, generally shows little reaction to things that don’t interest her, such as poisons or medicines. Of course, she also has no interest in outrageously handsome men, treating Jinshi with an indifference so icy it’s almost pitiable.

However, in episode 15, Maomao directs a smile at Jinshi, the likes of which she has never shown before. One day, while Maomao is lost in happy thoughts about a type of mushroom called Cordyceps, wondering, “Should I use it to make medicinal wine? Or pills? Ufufufufufu,” a beaming smile on her face, Jinshi just happens to walk by. Maomao, still with her dreamy smile, turns to him and, in that same upbeat tone, greets him with, “Welcome back!”—words she would absolutely never normally say to him.
