—What aspects did you want to express in your cosplay this time, or what did you pay special attention to?

Teikoku: I focused on bringing out that “gyaru” vibe as much as possible through makeup, posing, and costume accessories! For makeup, I used false eyelashes to recreate Jordan’s signature big, round, droopy eyes! I also tried to capture her slightly airheaded look by aiming for a dopey expression (laughs).

When it came to accessories, I went all out with decorations in her image colors, and I used loose socks for maximum gyaru feel. I think I really captured that gyaru energy. My posing might have come out pretty naturally—maybe that’s just how I am (laughs). Overall, I aimed to be super cute, a little bit flirtatious, and full of big, expressive movements!

—What do you find appealing about Umamusume?

Teikoku: I think the biggest draw is the respect for the historical racehorses and the faithful recreation of their stories. I enjoy horse racing myself, so to be honest, sometimes when a horse is turned into an Umamusume character, my first impression is often, “This isn’t quite how I pictured them…” But the storylines are just so good…!!

The relationships with Trainers and fellow Umamusume, the parent-child connections inspired by the original horses—things they couldn’t actually experience in real life are now brought to life through Umamusume as a kind of second life. That’s what I find so compelling.

—Are there any other cosplays you’d like to try in the future?

Teikoku: I cosplay at my own pace, but I want to keep cosplaying lots of characters I love, especially from Umamusume! I also plan to take on the challenge of cosplaying from Honkai: Star Rail in the future!

—Thank you very much!
