Many fans were also reminded of Char's look from the 1988 movie “Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack” by his slicked-back hairstyle. Comments included, “The slicked-back hair really brings back memories of the Char's Counterattack era. It's excellent direction,” “Even the way that little bit of bangs hangs down is just like back then,” and “When he went slicked-back, he looked so much like ‘Char’s Counterattack’ Char—it was just too good.”

“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest installment in the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, which began in 1979. The story centers on Amate Yuzuriha (voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa), a high school girl living peacefully in a space colony, who, after meeting a girl named Nyaan (voiced by Yui Ishikawa), gets drawn into the illegal mobile suit duel sport known as “Clan Battle.” The joint production by Studio Khara—renowned for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” film series—and Sunrise has generated much buzz. The theatrical pre-release version, shown this January ahead of the TV series, recorded a huge box office hit with approximately 3.4 billion yen in revenue. It will be re-screened at 368 theaters nationwide starting June 20.
