A Shocking Newcomer Joins the Realm of “Jito-me!” Machu from “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”: Parodies of Her Flood SNS With Cuteness

A brand-new member has joined the anime world’s roster of “jito-me heroines.” Her name is Machu. In the first episode of the anime “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” the main character Amate Yuzuriha (nicknamed Machu) displays her “jito-me”—that brief expression left a deep impression on viewers’ hearts.

“Jito-me” refers to a gaze where the character looks downward with a glare, conveying a blend of “distrust,” “disdain,” and “anger.” Iconic characters with this look include Yuki Nagato from “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” Umaru from “Himouto! Umaru-chan,” and Kagami Hiiragi from “Lucky Star.” Now, this group has gained a new rising star.

Early in the story, Machu receives a mysterious message, “Let’s get the Beginning.” Shortly after, she runs into Nyaan, a courier girl, at the station. The impact causes Machu to drop her smartphone, which is then stepped on and its screen cracked. On top of that, an illegal mobile suit installer device is secretly slipped into her bag.

Later, Nyaan uses the tracker planted in Machu’s bag to approach her again and successfully takes it back. However, Machu is a step ahead—she had also placed a tracker herself and tracks Nyaan down to her hideout. It is at this moment that Machu reveals her signature “jito-me” expression.
