[Photos/Images] Stop it! His life points have already hit zero... No matter how you look at it, Kamille's mental breakdown in "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam" was inevitable 1st

Has there ever been a boy as relentlessly afflicted by misfortune as Kamille Bidan (voiced by Nobuo Tobita), the protagonist of the anime "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam"? The focus is often on the fact that he suffered a mental breakdown in the final episode, but when you retrace the steps that led up to that point, the conclusion seems almost inevitable.

First, he loses both his parents in quick succession. His mother, Hilda, is taken hostage by the Titans and ultimately killed by being thrown out into space. His father, Franklin, dies in battle in a way that seems to betray his son. Even though it was during wartime, this was a cruel reality for a 16-year-old boy to face.

Furthermore, for some reason, Kamille is punched a total of 26 times throughout the series. Whether it's from Jerid, Bright, Beltorchika, or Reccoa, Kamille gets hit over and over, regardless of whether they're friends or foes. It's quite rare for a protagonist not only to be battered in mobile suit battles but also to be physically assaulted so many times as a regular person.

On top of all that, Kamille is constantly forced to part ways with Newtypes and Enhanced Humans. Four Murasame and Rosamia Badam, both Enhanced Humans with whom Kamille shared a deep emotional connection, perish after these bonds have formed, and they part on the battlefield. Even Sarah Zabiarov, an enemy who shook Kamille’s heart, ultimately loses her life. As if that weren't enough, his comrade Katz Kobayashi also dies.

It is precisely because Kamille is a Newtype—hypersensitive to the deaths of others—that the chain of these losses gradually chipped away at his heart.
