In Episode 48 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" (currently airing from July 4), the "something" that Lady Shisui (CV: Asami Seto), also known as Loulan, tried to entrust to Maomao (CV: Aoi Yūki) is revealed. Many viewers were moved to tears by Lady Shisui's plan, which was almost excessively kind, with reactions like "I'm just overwhelmed with emotion."
When the Clan of Shi was about to be suppressed and, in an effort to prevent their children from being killed, Lady Shisui had them take a drug that put them in a deathlike state. She left behind enigmatic words, saying, "If only these children were like insects, they could have survived the winter," before disappearing in the turmoil of the Clan of Shi's suppression.
In "The Beginning," Episode 48 and the final episode of Season 2, Maomao notices a noise while near the bodies of the children. When Maomao hastily unwraps one of the bodies, one of the children suddenly starts breathing again.
In reality, the drug Shisui gave the children was a "Revival Medicine" that induces a temporary state of suspended animation. However, the Revival Medicine was still in the experimental stage, and there was no knowing how it would affect children if they took it. Therefore, Lady Shisui brought Maomao out from the inner palace so that she could take care of the children should they come back to life. In addition, when Shisui met Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka), she left a message asking that those who "died once" be allowed to go free.
