In the School Gym Storage, Just the Two of Them... The Thrill of the Boys’ Secret in “The Summer Hikaru Died” Episode 2

Episode 2 of the anime “The Summer Hikaru Died” began airing on July 12. The scene where two childhood friend high school boys touch each other's bodies in a locked room left viewers captivated, with comments such as “My heart was pounding in so many ways” and “I can't believe that happened in the gym storage room.”

Hikaru Indou (CV: Shūichirō Umeda), the best friend of Yoshiki Tsujinaka (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi), was at some point replaced by a “something” that looks and sounds just like Hikaru, but is not truly him. In Episode 2, “Suspicion,” Hikaru—the entity resembling, but not truly, Hikaru—deals with a supernatural phenomenon encountered on a forest path. When Yoshiki expresses worry, Hikaru explains, “That thing was trying to stick to you, so I crushed it and took it inside me.”

As Yoshiki still seems unable to fully comprehend what has happened, Hikaru decides to actually show him his body. In the gymnasium’s storage room where no one else is around, the two look uncomfortable, thinking, “What is this situation?” and “What is even happening?” As Hikaru unbuttons his school shirt, a large gash appears on his chest. He asks Yoshiki, “Do you want to put your hand in?” and although Yoshiki hesitates, he does touch the gash, letting out a startled scream, “Hii!” Describing the sensation inside the gash, he gives a unique impression: “It feels like chicken that’s been dipped in sauce. It’s cool to the touch.”

Even though it is a horror situation surrounding the “something,” there is a somewhat strangely thrilling moment when Hikaru blushes and says, “It feels good there~,” sparking lots of discussion online such as, “My heart was racing for a lot of reasons,” “So creepy...!” and “I can’t believe they did that in the gym storage room...”
