In episode 19 of the anime “The Apothecary Diaries,” viewers were amused by the scene where the usually cool and collected Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yūki) launches into a rapid-fire “otaku-style” monologue, leaving even Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka) visibly taken aback by the stark difference in their energy.

Maomao is typically unsociable and responds coldly even when approached by the stunningly handsome Jinshi. However, when it comes to her interests like poisons and medicines, she demonstrates an unusual obsession.

In episode 19, Jinshi wants to assign Maomao to investigate a certain incident and dangles the prospect of a valuable rare medicine, bezoar, telling her, “The other day, when I visited a trading merchant, I heard they had something interesting.” This hints at the existence of bezoar, a precious remedy.

Upon hearing this, Maomao suddenly becomes unusually talkative, excitedly exclaiming, “Bezoar is a type of medicine made from a cow’s gallstone! It’s a top-grade remedy said to be found in only one out of a thousand cows!” She gets completely worked up, pressing Jinshi with, “Could it be, are you going to give it to me?! Really?! You’re not joking, are you?!” — forgetting even to speak politely in the process. Jinshi is somewhat taken aback by Maomao’s drastic transformation.
