Such a Straightforward Gaze... The Moving Scene of Jinshi Carrying the Injured Maomao Away in “The Apothecary Diaries”

The anime “The Apothecary Diaries,” which features the charmingly frustrating relationship between Maomao (Aoi Yūki) and Jinshi (Takeo Ōtsuka), continues to captivate viewers. In episode 19, a scene in which Jinshi lifts the injured Maomao in a “princess carry” has sent viewers’ hearts aflutter, with comments like “You can feel the love” and “He’s just like a prince—so cool.”

In episode 19, after Maomao re-investigates the commotion caused by the fire, she uncovers that danger threatens the upcoming festival. With help from Lakan (Takuya Kirimoto), her biological father and someone with whom she shares a complicated past, she manages to reach the scene just in time. At the very last moment, Maomao shields Jinshi from falling debris, but in turn, she suffers injuries severe enough to draw blood.

Jinshi, seeing the battered Maomao, desperately calls out, “Hey! Get a grip! Wake up!” He then picks up the unconscious Maomao and begins to walk away carrying her.
