Though Daisuke Ono is usually active as an artist himself, in Narita’s karaoke scenes, he expertly portrayed singing that deserved such a harsh evaluation from Satomi. Viewers commented appreciatively, "That’s an exquisitely off-key 'Kurenai' lololol," "The detail in 'creepy falsetto' is off the charts," and "Oddly sexy, plenty of talent, but the falsetto is so weird that it ends up being too skillful."
The anime "Let’s Go Karaoke!" is based on the manga of the same name by Yama Wayama. The story begins when yakuza Kyōji Narita requests choir club president Satomi Oka’s help in coaching him for his gang’s upcoming karaoke competition. A live-action film starring Go Ayano was also released in 2024.
Episode 1: "Encounter"
[Synopsis]
Third-year middle school student Satomi Oka, who is the president of the choir club, is suddenly approached at a choir competition venue by yakuza Kyōji Narita, who says, "Let’s go karaoke!" Narita explains that there’s a traditional karaoke contest in the Matsubayashi-gumi, and that he wants Satomi to coach him in singing so he won’t be selected as the "Worst Singer."
