“The Apothecary Diaries” is an anime adaptation of the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. It has also been serialized as a manga in two monthly magazines, with the series surpassing a total of 40 million copies in circulation. The TV anime aired for two consecutive cours starting in October 2023, gaining popularity and sparking major discussion for its mystery-solving drama starring Maomao (CV: Aoi Yūki), who serves as a food taster in the imperial harem, and her comical interactions with Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka). The second season of the anime is scheduled to air starting January 2025, and the production of a sequel was announced in July. Additionally, at Universal Studios Japan, the limited-time attraction “The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk: Investigate the Mysterious Medicine!” will be available until January 4, 2026. The first online game adaptation has also been announced, showing ever-increasing popularity.
