“The Apothecary Diaries” is an anime adaptation of the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. The story has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines and the total cumulative copies in print for the series have surpassed 40 million. The TV anime aired for two consecutive seasons starting in October 2023, and became hugely popular for its mystery elements involving Maomao’s work as a poison tester in the rear palace, as well as for the comedic interactions between Maomao and Jinshi. The second season of the anime will begin airing in January 2025, and in July, a sequel was officially announced. Furthermore, at Universal Studios Japan, the limited-time attraction “The Apothecary Diaries Mystery Walk: Investigate the Mysterious Medicine!” will be open until January 4, 2026. The series will also be adapted into an online game for the first time, promising even more popularity in the future.
