The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, serialized in “Weekly Shōnen Jump” from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taishō era, it follows the story of Tanjirō Kamado, a young boy whose family was killed by demons, and his ensuing battles. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation, and its sequel film, “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen at the global box office. Now, the original manga has reached a total worldwide circulation of 220 million copies, marking it as a monumental hit in Japanese manga and anime history.
Following “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime has aired “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc,” with the final episodes, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle,” announced as a trilogy. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns,” which premiered on July 18, 2025, has recorded a box office revenue of 28 billion yen in its first 38 days of release.
