The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story depicts the battles of a young boy, Tanjiro Kamado, whose family was killed by demons. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, immediately became a hot topic. Its sequel, the film “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in global box office revenue. The original manga now boasts worldwide cumulative circulation of 220 million copies, making it a monumental hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime has aired the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc,” while production of the final episodes, comprising a trilogy titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle,” has been announced. The first installment, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle - Chapter 1: Akaza’s Return,” which premiered on July 18, 2025, has recorded 28 billion yen in box office revenue in just 38 days.
