Frieren Goes Full Showa Comedy!? Hair Frizzed from an Explosion, Rolls Return at Home: "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End"

There is an unexpected nemesis for Frieren (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki), the mage who once defeated the Demon King. In episode 23 of the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," viewers get to see a “funny and cute” side of Frieren as she falls prey to a mimic’s trap.

Frieren was once a formidable member of the Hero’s Party that brought down the Demon King. However, due to her obsession with collecting magic, she cannot resist chests and has the unexpected weakness of “falling into mimics' traps” rather easily.

In episode 23, Frieren discovers a treasure chest inside a dungeon. Despite her apprentice Fern (voiced by Kana Ichinose) trying to stop her, Frieren insists, “There’s a valuable magic tome inside. My experience as a mage tells me so,” and touches the chest. As expected, she is eaten headfirst by a mimic, causing her to shriek, “It’s dark!! I’m scared!!”

After being rescued by Fern, Frieren reveals that whenever she’s been caught by a mimic alone, she “blasts her way out from the inside using attack magic.” However, she admits, “I don’t like it, because my hair gets all frizzy,” leading to a flashback of “frizzy-haired Frieren” sporting surprisingly glamorous drill curls.
