The sense of presence and animation quality, unique to the anime, drew a flood of comments such as “The action animation quality is off the charts lol,” “This battle is insane!” “The animation is so spectacular I feel dizzy just watching,” and “MAPPA is going all out.” Episode 41, which depicted Sukuna vs. Mahoraga, received a slew of reactions: “This is like a movie...” “Watching this dynamic battle on a wide screen makes it feel like I’m watching a film,” and “It really does feel like I’m in a theater.”
“Jujutsu Kaisen” is based on the manga of the same name by Gege Akutami, which has surpassed 100 million copies in circulation (including digital editions). The story begins with Yuji Itadori, who comes to share his body with the King of Curses, Ryōmen Sukuna, enrolling at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College, an institution specializing in combatting curses. The anime’s second season, broadcast from July to December 2023, covered the highly popular “Hidden Inventory/Premature Death” and “Shibuya Incident” arcs from the original manga.
The upcoming third season, “Culling Game: Part 1,” is scheduled to begin airing in January 2026. Prior to the broadcast, the world premiere of Episodes 1 and 2 from Season 3 will take place as part of the “Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident Special Edition x Culling Game Advance Screening” theatrical release, starting on November 7.
