The decision has been made to adapt all eight stories from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s short story collections “Tatsuki Fujimoto Short Stories 17-21” and “Tatsuki Fujimoto Short Stories 22-26” into anime. The key visual and the trailer have been released.
The works to be animated include “Niwa ni wa Niwa Niwatori ga Ita.”, depicting the bond between two survivors in a world where humanity has perished; “Sasaki-kun ga Judan Tometa,” which captures the explosive impulses of adolescence; the sci-fi romantic comedy “Koi wa Moumoku,” where a crush runs out of control on a cosmic scale; “Shikaku,” a tale of a screw-loose hit girl’s runaway love; “Ningyo Rhapsody,” about the love between a boy and a mermaid created by a piano at the bottom of the sea; “Me ga Sametara Onnanoko ni Natteita Byou,” which transcends gender boundaries to find one’s true self; “Yogen no Nayuta,” a story of the rebirth of siblings burdened with a harsh fate; and “Imouto no Ane,” portraying jealousy, conflict, and growth among sisters devoted to art.
For this anime adaptation, seven directors including Tetsuaki Watanabe from the TV anime “Blue Lock,” Nobuyuki Takeuchi from the film “Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom?,” and Kazuaki Terasawa from the TV anime “The Ancient Magus’ Bride SEASON2,” together with six studios (ZEXCS, Lapin Track, GRAPH77, 100studio, Studio Kafka, and P.A.WORKS) are participating.
The voice cast features a stellar lineup, including Kensho Ono, Shun Horie, Kana Hanazawa, and Tomokazu Sugita, as well as the comedian Yoichi Okano—known for his edgy persona—resulting in a diverse and talented ensemble.
Alongside the anime adaptation announcement, the key visual and trailer have also been revealed. True to the catchphrase, “Where it all began, now in motion,” the key visual condenses the diverse worlds of each work into a single image. The trailer vividly showcases the works that formed the roots of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s unique style, such as “Yogen no Nayuta” and “Imouto no Ane”—said to be precursors to “Chainsaw Man” and “Look Back”—brimming with purity, ferocity, playfulness, and exhilarating energy.
Regarding this adaptation, original creator Tatsuki Fujimoto commented, “Having works I made as a student adapted into anime, I often wondered if this should really happen, and whether they wouldn’t end up relying entirely on someone else’s inspiration. Though I haven’t seen them yet, I believe they have become true works thanks to the talents of the directors involved.”
