Towa Tokoyami / Who is your favorite character in "Kaijin Fugeki" and what are your favorite traits?
Every character has their own unique personality, and I thought all of them were very charming. In particular, I liked how many of the girls firmly expressed their own will—it was wonderful. Although Jin seems somewhat apathetic at first glance, I was drawn to his hidden knowledge and his ability to act for others, so he became my favorite character! Also, MeriMeri is so cute!

Botan Shishiro / Who is your favorite character in "Kaijin Fugeki" and what are your favorite traits?
Yukarin, the blacksmith’s daughter! I didn’t particularly notice her in her first appearance, but as the story progresses and more of her personal side is revealed, I felt a sudden sense of closeness to her. Her admiration, doubts, and confusion toward the Fugeki are so human and relatable, and I personally think she’s a character readers can easily empathize with.

Minori Taira / Q: What are your impressions of "Kaijin Fugeki"?
The kagura dance is cool! Rural summer! Blue skies! The art is incredible!—was my first impression. While reading, I noticed there are mysteries and parts I didn’t immediately understand scattered throughout, which made it feel like the story was actively involving the reader, encouraging thoughtful engagement. Gradually, I came to understand what kind of story "Kaijin Fugeki" is, and it became very interesting! The fresh depiction of "night" and the blend of reality and fantasy in the story made me excited to keep turning the pages.

Left: Yuta / Right: Ryu

Yuta / Q: What are your impressions of "Kaijin Fugeki"?
When I first read it, I was honestly a bit taken aback, thinking “This is a pretty difficult work!” (laughs). But the further I read, the more addicted I became to the unique world and detailed settings—I just couldn’t stop. And above all, the artwork is stunningly beautiful. Among the characters, I like Jin; I ended up empathizing with the relationship between Jin and Gao, even seeing aspects of myself and Ryu in their bond. Also, I love Hirano-sensei! I tend to like strong and twisted characters (laughs).

Ryu / Q: What are your impressions of "Kaijin Fugeki"?
The intensity and tension of the battle scenes fill each page and make my heart pound with excitement. I felt the work truly maximizes the appeal of the characters’ visuals. I like Gao and Gao’s mother; both possess remarkable strength and a kindness toward others within that power, making them very compelling.

1: What scenes from "Kaijin Fugeki" inspired you?
The most memorable is definitely the encounter between Jin and Gao at the beginning of volume one. The sense that “everything started on that night” resonates in both the story and the song. The battle scenes also left a lasting impression—the way they trust their backs to each other and dance together felt as precious as youthful friendship, which I wanted to express in the music.

2: Who is the “Kimi” (you) in the title and lyrics meant to represent?
It refers to companions or loved ones you can entrust your back to—such people inspired the image. Of course, Jin and Gao’s relationship is central, but in the song, it also parallels the strong bond between Botan Shishiro and Towa Tokoyami. I hoped this song would let each listener picture their own “Kimi.”
