“My Neck…” Shocking Last 44 Seconds Leave Viewers Stunned… Main Character Faces Unthinkable Tragedy!? Episode 9 of the Anime “The Summer Hikaru Died”

The horror anime “The Summer Hikaru Died” episode 9 began airing sequentially from September 6th. The tragedy that befell Hikaru (voiced by Shūichirō Umeda) in the last 44 seconds of the episode sent shockwaves across the internet, with comments like “Hikaru’s... neck...” and “What the heck” expressing viewers’ disbelief.

Hikaru Indou, the best friend of Yoshiki Tsujinaka (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi), was, at some point, replaced by a “something” that is no longer Hikaru.

In episode 9, titled “Takeda's Grandfather,” Hikaru and Yoshiki visit the home of Takeda's Grandfather (voiced by Takayuki Sugou). Takeda's Grandfather ominously claims, “This village is being swallowed up by impurity,” and continues, “If you trace it back to the origin, it’s all because of a taboo committed by the Indou family. That taboo has cost many lives,” making cryptic remarks.

Takeda's Grandfather’s behavior becomes increasingly bizarre, as if possessed by something, and eventually, he swings a Japanese sword at Hikaru and Yoshiki. At that moment, a mysterious man named Tanaka (voiced by Chikahiro Kobayashi) intervenes, and it seems like the situation is calming down, only for Tanaka to say, “Sorry about this—I need to check something,” before severing Hikaru’s head with a sword. Yoshiki, unable to comprehend the situation, is left speechless.
