This time, I am truly happy and honored to be able to be in charge of the opening theme for “Fate/strange Fake” as SawanoHiroyuki[nZk], and to have the opportunity to collaborate with both Jean-Ken Johnny and TAKUMA. Recording with Jean-Ken Johnny after a while again reminded me how cool his singing voice is, and I felt his remarkable power and sense as both vocalist and creator through the way he thought about the best possible performance for the song. And through TAKUMA’s emotional approach, whom I was working with for the first time, the sound's contrasts and power were strongly enhanced, making me appreciate the importance of this collaboration and I’m sincerely grateful to both artists. I hope everyone enjoys the world of “Fate/strange Fake” in sync with this song.

A long time ago, in a work for which Sawano-san composed the music, I suddenly thought, “Huh!? Isn’t that Jean-Ken? And… what’s this amazing guitar sound!!” The moment I heard the guitar on the track accompanying Jean-Ken Johnny’s voice, I was stunned, thinking, “What is this unreal, magical, incredible guitar sound?!” I shot up, a paper bucket of popcorn in one hand and a remote in the other, my glasses askew, scattering popcorn everywhere, my bedhead a total mess, jaw on the floor—and right after that, the very next time I met Jean-Ken Johnny, I immediately asked him, “You were singing on that, but don't tell me you're actually acquainted with Sawano-san?!”

I am honored to once again participate in Sawano-san’s project. When I first received the demo, I immediately thought, “Once again, the maestro has written an insanely cool song—how sly!” Of course, it goes without saying that Sawano-san’s musical creations are superb, but his melodies and approach differ greatly from what I would compose myself, so I always receive an enormous amount of inspiration from him both as a performer and as a creator. This is also the first time I’m collaborating as a vocalist with TAKUMA, so this song is a fresh and precious new piece for those who know of us. Please give it a listen!

Jean-Ken Johnny is the guitarist/vocalist/rapper of MAN WITH A MISSION, an ultimate lifeform rock band of “five wolves with human bodies.” Bursting onto the music scene in 2010, their outstanding live performances have driven their rapid ascent. The band has performed theme songs for numerous TV commercials, anime, dramas, and movies. Supported by a wide fan base, they have even achieved their U.S. debut, attracting worldwide attention. Constantly evolving, they continue to lead the music scene. In November 2021 and May 2022, they released their first pair of consecutive albums, “Break and Cross the Walls I” and “Break and Cross the Walls II.” In 2023, their collaboration with singer-songwriter milet “Kizuna no Kiseki / Koikogare” became the theme song for “Demon Slayer:Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” and was a smash hit. When I was moved by the music Sawano-san composed for a certain film, I told Jean-Ken Johnny about it, and he hinted at wanting an introduction (almost like condensation forming due to overflowing enthusiasm), but it never happened. Then, out of the blue, came this crazy opportunity: working with Jean-Ken Johnny and Sawano-san on anime music… which turned out to be the OP theme for “Fate/strange Fake.” The Earth really is a planet where amazing things happen.

TAKUMA is the vocalist/guitarist and also writes lyrics and music for the three-piece rock band 10-FEET, which is based in Kyoto. The band actively tours nationwide and appears at festivals. 10-FEET’s “Kyoto Daisakusen” festival involves fierce ticket competition every year and is regarded as a flagship artist-hosted festival. Having been together for over 25 years, the band continues to reach new heights, constantly evolving. As a solo act, TAKUMA has also performed acoustic shows since 2018, and under the name “Takuma,” released his first solo track on November 24, 2021, which became the theme song for the movie “Gunkan Shonen.” He has also written songs for other artists and participated as a guest vocalist for acts including Dragon Ash, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, MAN WITH A MISSION, TOTALFAT, SUNSET BUS, Sugar Ray (US), INSOLENCE (US), and INFINITY16.
