More Grueling Than Any Hashira’s Training!? Tanjiro Endures Extreme Starvation and Sleep Deprivation Training With the Six-Armed Swordsman in "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba"

Did Tanjiro Kamado (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) enter the afterlife...!? For several days, Tanjiro battled a combat doll with multiple arms. In fact, this training may have been even harsher than the Hashira (Pillar) training, the highest-level training in the Demon Slayer Corps.

In Episode 2 of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc," Tanjiro trains against the combat doll Yoriichi Type Zero, which is owned by Kotetsu (voiced by Ayumu Murase). Although Yoriichi Type Zero originally had six arms, it was reduced to five after being damaged, yet it still delivered a relentless onslaught, leaving Tanjiro struggling to keep up. What’s more, the strict Kotetsu scolded Tanjiro, saying, “Your fundamentals are lacking,” and declared, “I will thoroughly hammer away at your weaknesses, so I won’t give you any food until you can do what I ask!”

Almost entirely fasting and sleep-deprived, a haggard Tanjiro nearly crossed the Sanzu River during this intense training. Viewers poured in with comments such as “Training without food is too harsh,” “Give him something to eat,” and “This is extreme even for special training.” Later, Tanjiro undergoes fierce training with the Hashira in the "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc," but judging by him almost crossing the Sanzu River here, there are scenes that make you feel, “Wasn’t Kotetsu’s training even more hellish?”
