Do You Know How to Sheathe It!? Mitsuri Kanroji’s “Wiggly Nichirin Sword” in "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" Is “Ufufu~ Hihihi~”

The Nichirin Swords wielded by the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps in the anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” each have their own distinctive appearance, but the sword of Mitsuri Kanroji, the “Love Hashira” (voiced by Kana Hanazawa), is especially unique. How is it possible to sheathe that thin, soft blade, which looks just like a ribbon? Mitsuri herself gave a demonstration.

Mitsuri’s Nichirin Sword is extremely thin and flexible, able to bend freely like a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon. In the preview for the next episode, which aired after Episode 5 of the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc,” Tanjirō Kamado (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) asked Mitsuri, “How do you put that sword back in its sheath?”

Mitsuri replied, “How, you ask…” and then, with all her might, threatened her sword playfully with, “Poison potato~. Ufufu~, hihihi~, kukuku~.” While Tanjirō and the others stood there, dumbfounded, Mitsuri quickly followed with, “Just kidding!” She then gracefully swung her sword and, like magic, sheathed it with a flourish.

Tanjirō applauded, saying, “That’s amazing!” and the nearby Nezuko (voiced by Akari Kitō) nodded with a smile. Mitsuri, with a proud expression, responded, “Is it really that amazing?” and decided to perform the demonstration again. The exchange, with no one playing the straight man, was both humorous and somehow cute.
