The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it follows the story of the young Tanjirō Kamado, who battles demons after his family is slaughtered.

The TV anime adaptation, which began airing in April 2019 with the “Tanjiro Kamado: Unwavering Resolve Arc,” quickly became a sensation. The subsequent “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The manga has now reached a total of 220 million copies in circulation worldwide, making it a historic hit in the world of Japanese comics and anime.

Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime progressed through the “Entertainment District Arc,” the “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and the “Hashira Training Arc.” The final episodes, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc,” have been announced as a trilogy film project. The first part, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Act 1 – Akaza’s Return,” which premiered on July 18, 2025, surpassed 33 billion yen in box office revenue within its first 60 days. With releases rolling out in overseas markets as well, the global box office has now exceeded 68 billion yen, including Japan.
