The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which ran in "Weekly Shōnen Jump" from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taishō era, the story follows Tanjirō Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by demons and who embarks on a quest for revenge. The TV anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation, and its sequel, the "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train," has surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. As of now, the total worldwide print run of the original manga has reached 220 million copies, making it a record-breaking hit in Japanese manga and anime history.
The TV anime continued with the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and the currently airing "Hashira Training Arc." The final episodes, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc," are to be produced as a trilogy for theatrical release. "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza Returns," which has been in theaters since July 18, 2025, has already grossed over 33 billion yen in its first 60 days of release. In addition to Japan, the film has started rolling out overseas and has surpassed 68 billion yen in total worldwide box office revenue.
