The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the hit manga by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. The story follows Tanjirō Kamado, a young boy whose family has been murdered by demons, as he sets out to battle in the Taisho era. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, immediately drew attention, and its sequel, the “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenues. The manga’s total worldwide circulation now exceeds 220 million copies, making it a historic blockbuster in the world of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime aired the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” The climactic “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc” will be produced as a trilogy of films. The first film, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return,” released on July 18, 2025, grossed over 34 billion yen in its first 66 days. Additionally, the release continues to roll out internationally, and the combined global box office (including Japan) has surpassed 68 billion yen.
