The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it tells the story of Tanjirō Kamado, a boy whose family was killed by demons as he sets out on a quest for revenge. The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, quickly gained popularity, and its follow-up, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train," surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. To date, the manga’s cumulative global circulation has exceeded 220 million copies, making it a record-breaking hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.

Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime continued with the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and "Hashira Training Arc." The final story arc, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc The Movie," has been announced as a trilogy. The first chapter, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc: Chapter 1 Akaza’s Return," which premiered on July 18, 2025, earned over 34 billion yen at the box office in 66 days after release. The movie has also started its theatrical run overseas, pushing total worldwide box office revenues, including Japan, past 68 billion yen.
