The Demon Slayer anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which ran from 2016 to 2020 in Weekly Shonen Jump. Set in Japan’s Taisho period, it tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), a boy whose family is killed by demons, and his battle for vengeance.

The TV anime series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" began airing in April 2019 with the "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which instantly became a sensation. Its sequel, the theatrical film "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc," has grossed over 50 billion yen worldwide. The cumulative global circulation of the original manga has now reached 220 million copies, making it a historic hit in the world of Japanese manga and anime.

Following "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime aired the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and "Hashira Training Arc." It has been announced that the climactic episodes will be made into a trilogy of films titled "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc." The first chapter of the trilogy, "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc - Chapter 1: Akaza’s Return," opened on July 18, 2025, and has grossed more than 34 billion yen in its first 66 days. As overseas releases are gradually underway, by September 22, total box office receipts have surpassed 82.3 billion yen worldwide, including Japan.
