The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is slaughtered by demons, and his ensuing battle.
The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, instantly became a sensation. Its sequel, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train," surpassed 50 billion yen in total global box office revenue. Today, the manga’s total worldwide print circulation exceeds 220 million copies, making it a record-breaking hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime series aired the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and "Hashira Training Arc." A three-part "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc" has been announced as the adaptation of the latter episodes. The first part, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc - Part 1: Akaza Returns," which opened on July 18, 2025, earned over 34 billion yen at the box office in just 66 days. With releases beginning sequentially in overseas markets, cumulative global box office revenue, including Japan, surpassed 82.3 billion yen by September 22.
