——What were some of the ways you innovated with your cosplay this time?

Merico: Since 2B is not a human but an android character, I paid careful attention to body shape management leading up to the event. Regarding the costume, I sewed about two meters of setup tape (a wire-like material) along the inside hem of the skirt to recreate the character’s distinctive silhouette.

Also, since I wasn’t used to posing with a sword, it was a bit difficult, but it was a lot of fun. The day before, I even practiced a bit swinging the sword in front of my home mirror (laughs). By the way, during practice, I could balance on one leg and hold unstable poses without any trouble, but when I actually put on the blindfold for the real thing, my vision was restricted, making it a bit tricky to maintain balance.

——This cosplay completely covered your eyes—were you able to see okay?

Merico: I used a special fabric for the goggles that lets you see through from the inside. Since goggles are an essential piece of equipment for YoRHa squad members like 2B, I came up with a way to maintain visibility while staying true to the character.

In reality, I could see my surroundings about as well as looking through a window screen, and in bright places, I could even read a book, so my field of vision was more than adequate. At first, I was a bit anxious about having my eyes entirely covered, but as I got used to it, walking naturally and posing became easy, and I really enjoyed the experience of becoming the character.

——Do you have any events to announce or cosplays you’d like to try in the future?

Merico: In the future, I’d love to try cosplaying as Kaine or A2 from the “NieR” series as well. Also, I’d like to challenge myself with idol-themed cosplays, such as from “Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club” or “Gakuen Idolmaster.”

Regarding events, I plan on participating in Ikebukuro Halloween (Ikeharo) and Winter Comiket later this year. At Winter Comiket, if I’m able to participate, I plan to release an illustration book and photo collection themed on “Honkai: Star Rail,” and I want to enjoy creative activity alongside cosplay.

——Thank you very much!

Merico’s cosplay showcased elaborate costumes and accessories with ingenuity throughout. We look forward to seeing her next challenge, showcasing her passion for world-building and authentic character portrayal.
