The original TV anime "Dusk Beyond the End of the World" is a genuine sci-fi love story brought to you by P.A.WORKS. The protagonist, Akira Himegami, awakens from a 200-year slumber to find himself being proposed to by an android named Yuugure, who looks exactly like his beloved Towasa Ōmaki.

In this story, Akira navigates a world where common sense has changed, embarking on a journey to find Towasa. We interviewed Shūichirō Umeda, who plays Akira Himegami, and Yui Ishikawa, who voices Yuugure, to discuss the highlights of "Dusk Beyond the End of the World."

――This work is an original anime. What were your first impressions, and what do you think are its highlights?

Umeda: My first impression was that, while it's a sci-fi work, it values human relationships. In Episode 0, AI is depicted as a partner in daily life, and you might think it's a youth story about a normal boy Akira and Towasa living in that future, but from there, a world 200 years later is depicted.

However, in the future, there's a portrayal of people having closer relationships, so while the sci-fi elements are enjoyable, I believe it's a work where you can enjoy a new form of human ensemble drama or love story.

Ishikawa: When I read the scenario before recording, I felt that, although it's set 200 years in the future, it touches on themes we really need to think about, like AI, love, and diversity. It made me question my own values quite a bit.

While Akira's journey to find Towasa is a key element, the story shows him encountering various forms of love from the people they meet, and Yuugure also seeks to discover their own true love, exploring what true love really means through those encounters.
