The anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a work that has gained significant support for its poignant lines, impressive battle sequences, and occasional humor. The story begins with the elf Frieren (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki), who has lived for over 1,000 years, bidding farewell to the death of the hero Himmel (voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto) with tears.
The first episode of this series premiered in an unusual format as a two-hour special on the NTV's "Friday Road Show" slot. As an "elf," a long-lived species, Frieren's sense of time is vastly different from that of humans, and she perceived humans as beings who "die quickly." This perspective extended even to her comrades who had defeated the Demon King alongside her.
However, after the defeat of the Demon King and several decades later, when Himmel grows old and passes away, Frieren confesses her feelings, saying, "I knew human lifespans were short, so why didn't I try to learn more about them...?" She sheds tears of regret for her lack of interest in others. Consequently, Frieren embarks on an aimless journey with the goal of "knowing more about humans."
