This attack scene quickly became a hot topic after the broadcast. On social media, comments like “That Light Cannon is way too bloodthirsty—amazing!” “No one would guess they’re siblings with the way they’re clashing,” and “Sayla is scary” flooded in, while the initial attack with the hammer became a joke among fans, nicknamed the “Oni-ko Hammer.” Although not an official term, the sheer impact of the scene was undeniable.

Although the battle was brief, this episode’s scene was a moment that made viewers reflect deeply on the sibling relationship. Despite its short length, it has now been firmly etched into the audience’s memory.

“Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is the latest entry in the Mobile Suit Gundam series that began in 1979. The story follows high school girl Amate Yuzuriha, living peacefully on a space colony, whose encounter with the mysterious girl Nyaan leads her into the underground Mobile Suit dueling competition, “Clan Battle.”

The joint production between Studio Khara, known for the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series, and Sunrise has garnered much attention. The theatrical release earlier this January, prior to the TV broadcast, was a major hit, earning about 3.4 billion yen at the box office. The film is being re-screened across 368 theaters nationwide starting June 20, and a special event is scheduled at North America’s largest anime event, Anime Expo 2025, attesting to its growing popularity both domestically and internationally.
