Anime "High School! Kimengumi" Depicting the Reiwa Era Kimengumi to Begin Broadcasting on "Noitamina" in January 2026, "Ushiroyubi Sasare Gumi" Also Arranged in Modern Style

The broadcast of the TV anime "High School! Kimengumi" has been confirmed to begin in January 2026 on the nationwide Fuji TV network's "Noitamina" programming block.

The original work began serialization in 1980 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (published by Shueisha) as "3-nen Kimengumi," and was retitled "High School! Kimengumi" as the characters advanced to high school—a groundbreaking concept at the time that became a huge hit. Furthermore, the TV anime aired starting in 1985, sparking a major boom.

The director of this production is Kazuaki Seki, who has directed films such as "Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey" and "Beethoven Netsuzō," and has also created music videos for various artists including Perfume, Gen Hoshino, Fujii Kaze, and Vaundy, demonstrating his wide-ranging talents. This marks his first challenge as an anime director, and he will depict Kimengumi with a sensibility suited to the Reiwa era.

Additionally, a spectacular cast has been assembled. For the unique members of Kimengumi, Tomokazu Seki, Shunsuke Takeuchi, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Chiaki Kobayashi, and Kikunosuke Toya have been selected to deliver a new five-member "Kimengumi." It has also been decided that Haruka Shiraishi and Ikumi Hasegawa will play classmate and heroine Yui Kawa and her best friend Chie Uru. Comments from each cast member have also arrived.

Furthermore, an image music video has been released to commemorate the TV anime adaptation. The song used in the MV is a cover of "Ushiroyubi Sasare Gumi," which was the theme song of the previous anime, performed by Yui Kawa (CV: Haruka Shiraishi) and Chie Uru (CV: Ikumi Hasegawa). For the arrangement, Night Tempo, who has been gaining attention as a pioneer of the recent city pop boom, has been brought in to arrange the song in a modern style.

A teaser visual has also been released. On a smartphone screen, the five members of "Kimengumi" appear. Within an SNS-like screen, the visual shows them peering toward the viewer. Each displays their own unique expression, creating an image that emphasizes their "kimen" (unique faces). In the bottom right corner, there are stamps modeled after "Kimengumi," and if you look closely at the bottom left, you can see comments from Yui and Chie—pay attention to these fine details as well.
