Even Maomao Has Moments Like This: The Heartwarming and Cute Exchange with Xiaolan Learning to Write in 'The Apothecary Diaries'

Maomao (CV: Aoi Yuki ) is usually quite detached. However, she clearly dotes on her close servant girl, Xiaolan (CV: Misaki Kuno), and the exchange between the two in Episode 25 is a heartwarming scene much like that of close sisters.

In Episode 25 of the anime 'The Apothecary Diaries' , Maomao was asked by Xiaolan, "I want you to teach me how to write!" Xiaolan explained the situation: "The girl who usually reads novels to me read too many times and lost her voice. She made me a copy of a book instead, but I can't read the characters." Maomao then proposed, "Then should I read it?"

Xiaolan immediately pleaded, "That won't do! She took the time to write it out for me, so I shouldn't cheat like that!" Maomao was moved by Xiaolan's determination and gently stroked her head, saying, "You are commendable..."

Maomao then wrote "Xiaolan" on the ground and taught her in a gentle voice, "This is your name. Try copying it." Xiaolan immediately tried to write it but couldn't do it well. Maomao asked, "You'll learn to read better if you write, but do you just want to study how to read?" However, Xiaolan replied, "Since I have the chance, I want to learn how to write! I have to find a job on my own when I leave the Inner Palace." Maomao was impressed by Xiaolan's mature outlook on her future and once again stroked her head.
